The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially fixed Saturday, 20 February 2027 as the date for Nigeria’s presidential and National Assembly elections, with governorship and State House of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, 6 March 2027.
The announcement provides a clear timetable for political parties, aspirants, and voters, marking the formal start of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
INEC also outlined other critical deadlines, including the continuous voter registration period from April 2026 to January 2027, party primaries from 1 July to 30 September 2026, and the submission of candidate lists between 1 and 31 October 2026. The final publication of approved candidates is slated for 15 November 2026.
Campaign periods have also been defined, with presidential and National Assembly campaigns running from 18 November 2026 to 19 February 2027, and governorship and state assembly campaigns from 15 December 2026 to 5 March 2027.
INEC has warned the public against relying on unofficial election timetables circulating online, urging citizens, political parties, and stakeholders to consult only verified sources for accurate information. The commission emphasized that adherence to official deadlines is critical for the smooth conduct of the 2027 elections.
This announcement comes at a time when Nigeria prepares for a highly contested political cycle, with parties and candidates now having a structured timeline to plan campaigns, mobilize supporters, and ensure voter engagement across the country.
