Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped to seventh place in the latest ranking of Africa’s most valuable national teams, reflecting a shift in the continent’s football hierarchy ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Transfermarkt valuations, the Nigerian squad is currently worth €172.05 million, placing it behind Ivory Coast, Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, Ghana and Cameroon.
African champions Ivory Coast top the list with a squad value of €522.10 million, followed by Senegal at €478.10 million and Morocco at €447.70 million. Algeria and Ghana occupy fourth and fifth positions respectively, while Cameroon sit just above Nigeria in sixth place.
The decline represents a significant fall for the Super Eagles, who were previously regarded as Africa’s most valuable national team.
Analysts attribute the drop to injuries, fluctuating form among key players and the inclusion of several lower-valued players from domestic and emerging leagues.
Despite the setback, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen remains one of the continent’s biggest stars and the leading figure in the Nigerian squad.
However, changing fortunes and market value adjustments involving players such as Ademola Lookman and Terem Moffi have also impacted the team’s overall valuation.
DR Congo, Mali and Egypt complete the top 10 list, while Tunisia and Burkina Faso have dropped out of the elite group. Cape Verde, one of the surprise packages, have climbed to 15th position as they prepare for their maiden FIFA World Cup appearance.
The latest rankings come as African nations intensify preparations for the World Cup, with several countries witnessing a surge in market values driven by the emergence of highly rated young talents and increased representation in Europe’s top leagues.
