Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 30-year-old Brazilian national, Ingrid Benevides, in what the agency described as the single largest heroin seizure at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The suspect was allegedly found in possession of 30.09 kilograms of heroin, valued at over N3 billion on the street. The illicit drugs were reportedly concealed in factory-sealed coffee packs in an attempt to evade security checks.
In a statement issued on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi disclosed that Benevides was intercepted on Friday after arriving in Abuja aboard a Qatar Airways flight.
Babafemi said the arrest followed credible intelligence and reinforced surveillance by NDLEA operatives at the airport. He added that the agency remains resolute in its efforts to dismantle international drug trafficking networks and secure Nigeria’s entry points.
