The programme, under the Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up, was officially flagged off in Akure North by the Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Seun Osamaye, who led a delegation of project officials to the local government.
Speaking at the event, Osamaye said the initiative is designed to empower women economically and support the sustainability of their businesses. She described the programme as transformative, particularly for women who rely solely on their spouses for income.
She urged beneficiaries drawn from the 12 wards of the local government to make judicious use of the opportunity, noting that Ondo State is among the few states in the South-West selected for the intervention. She added that Akure North is privileged to be one of the benefiting local government areas in the state.
Representing the council chairman, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Fadumo, expressed appreciation to the state government and the Ministry of Women Affairs for considering Akure North for the initiative. He emphasized the vital role of women in societal development, describing them as pillars of modern communities.
He assured that women in the local government are industrious and capable of maximizing the benefits of the programme, while also urging participants to adhere strictly to the guidelines of the project.
Some beneficiaries who spoke at the event commended the initiative, pledging to comply with all requirements and ensure the programme achieves its intended objectives.
