The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order restraining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from proceeding with its planned national convention slated to hold next month in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Justice James Omotosho, who gave the ruling on Wednesday, directed the party to suspend all preparations and activities related to the convention pending the determination of a suit before the court.
The order followed an application brought before the court challenging the legality and procedural compliance of the proposed convention by some aggrieved party members.
Justice Omotosho emphasized the need to maintain status quo ante bellum until all contentious issues surrounding the convention are properly resolved.
The PDP had earlier announced Ibadan as the host city for its national convention, where key leadership decisions and internal elections were expected to take place.
The matter has been adjourned for further hearing, while the restraining order remains in force until the substantive suit is determined.
