The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has resigned from office following mounting allegations of certificate forgery.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted Nnaji’s resignation, marking the end of his tenure barely two years after his appointment in August 2023.
Nnaji has been enmeshed in a certificate scandal involving the academic credentials he submitted during his ministerial screening. Both the university degree and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate he presented were reportedly disowned by the affected institutions, while the matter is currently before a competent court of jurisdiction.
In his resignation letter, Nnaji thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, claiming he had become a target of blackmail by political opponents.
President Tinubu, in accepting the resignation, commended Nnaji for his service to the nation and wished him well in his future endeavours.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Monday, October 7, 2025.
