Tragedy was averted on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, when a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) helicopter executed a safe precautionary emergency landing on farmland in the Utur Tse-Igboji area of Makurdi, Benue State.
The incident occurred during an operational flight aimed at disrupting criminal elements and anti-kidnapping targets in the region. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the aircraft descend unexpectedly into a local farm, prompting brief panic among farmers before residents gathered to assist.
Military authorities confirmed that the crew executed the maneuver in full compliance with established flight safety protocols after encountering technical indicators mid-flight. All personnel on board survived without any casualties or serious injuries, and the helicopter was subsequently safely inspected and cleared to return to base.
The operational incident came just two days after a fatal air crash in Ondo State involving a NAF ATR-42 aircraft (tail number NAF 931) that tragically claimed 25 lives. Air Force officials reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining tactical air operations and close ground support across vulnerable communities while strictly maintaining standard flight safety standards.
