Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has assured residents that the best of his administration’s achievements lie ahead, pledging accelerated development across all sectors of the state.
Speaking at the Chapel of the Annunciation, Archbishop Vining College of Theology, Oke-Emeso, Akure, during a thanksgiving service to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary on Sunday, the Governor said that although much has been accomplished, his government is only just beginning its mission of inclusive growth.
“In the last several months, much has been achieved, yet I stand before you to humbly say that we are only just beginning. By God’s grace, we shall not relent until every community in the state can feel the touch of development,” he told the congregation.
Aiyedatiwa noted that his administration’s “Our Ease” agenda was already taking shape, with projects cutting across infrastructure, education, healthcare, and security.
He stressed that his government would continue to work with service, accountability, and progress as guiding principles.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s Independence, the Governor said the celebration is not just symbolic but a reminder of unity, sacrifice, and responsibility.
He recalled the country’s survival of civil war, ethnic crises, economic downturns, and the COVID-19 pandemic, attributing it to divine providence.
“Independence is more than the lowering of one flag and the raising of another. It is a constant reminder of freedom, responsibility and nationhood. Truly, if not for God, there would not have been any entity called Nigeria,” he said.
On insecurity, Aiyedatiwa stressed the importance of collective responsibility. “Security is the primary duty of government, but it is everybody’s business. Citizens’ participation is very key,” he declared.
The Governor praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as “revolutionary reforms and infrastructural development,” urging Nigerians to support the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Earlier in his sermon, Rt. Rev. Joseph Alaba Olusola, Bishop of Ijesa North Diocese, called for repentance, unity, and a moral rebirth, saying Nigeria’s progress depends on honesty, innovation, and opportunities for the youth.
The Rector of the College, Ven. Dr. Moses Adetunbi, commended the Governor for infrastructural projects across the state and prompt payment of salaries and pensions, while Bishop Michael Ipinmoye offered special prayers for the Governor, his team, and the people of Ondo State.
The event was attended by Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Olamide Oladiji, Secretary to the State Government Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, Chief of Staff Prince Olusegun Omojuwa, lawmakers, cabinet members, and security chiefs.
