Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected cultist and ex-convict, recovering a locally made firearm hidden in a toilet pipe.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the arrest was carried out by operatives of Ijede Division following complaints from residents of Sabon Kasuwa, Abule Eko, on August 18, 2025.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Onamade Kayode, was reported to have been brandishing a gun and threatening members of the public before being tracked to an uncompleted building.
“Investigations revealed that the suspect, who regained freedom from prison in 2022 for cultism-related offences, remains an active member of a cult group,” Hundeyin stated.
Kayode confessed to being in possession of a firearm and led operatives to the building’s toilet pipe where the weapon was concealed. He is said to be cooperating with investigators in efforts to apprehend other members of his gang and recover more weapons.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers for their swift response and professionalism, while urging residents to shun cultism and armed robbery. He also appealed to the public to provide timely and credible information to assist the police in fighting crime.
The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
