The paternal grandmother of late Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings has opened up about their distant relationship, expressing deep sorrow over his passing while insisting that he be honored with a proper burial in his own home.
Speaking in an emotional interview with Dumininu, the elderly woman recalled how the family lovingly cared for the singer’s mother, though Toluwanisings rarely kept in touch or reached out to her.
“We took care of his mother very well like our own, but Toluwanisings didn’t call me. Even when I wanted to reach out, people advised me against it. I didn’t even know he had built a house, and I only recently learned how popular he had become as a gospel singer,” she revealed.
Reflecting on his support during his lifetime, she shared that their communication was minimal and financial support was rare, limited to just a few occasions when he sent ₦10,000 after she expressed a desire to hear his voice.
“He never gave me money or bought medicine for me. When I complained about not seeing him, he would just say he was busy with work. But despite all of that, hearing about his death broke my heart. It is a deep sorrow for me,” she expressed.
Despite feeling neglected while he was alive, the grandmother declared that she refuses to abandon her grandson now that he is gone. Firmly rejecting plans to bury him beside his late mother, she is insisting that he be laid to rest with dignity in the home he built.
“It is my wish for him to be buried inside the house he built. They must not lay him beside his mother’s grave- I will not allow it. He may not have taken care of me in life, but I will make sure he gets the proper honor and resting place he deserves in death.”
