The family of veteran Nigerian Juju and Highlife musician Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as Saint Janet, has opened up about the events leading to her sudden passing. Speaking in a recent interview with Alore TV, her children, Omowunmi, Orinayo, and Fola ,along with her long-time manager, detailed her final hours before she suffered sudden chest pain and respiratory distress.
Hours before her death, Saint Janet had performed at an overnight musical event in Sango, Ogun State. According to her daughter Omowunmi and her manager, she showed no signs of illness during or after the performance, singing effortlessly, receiving applause, and chatting warmly with the event organizer.
After returning home and resting during the day, she visited the local market to buy foodstuff and returned home around 6:00 PM, insisting on preparing a pot of soup herself. She even spoke on the phone with her manager around that time, promising to call him back as soon as she finished cooking.
Shortly after completing her chores, Saint Janet began experiencing severe discomfort. Her daughter Omowunmi recalled noticing her mother clutching her chest, stating she felt as though something was about to drop from her chest while her breathing became irregular. Recognizing the severity of the situation, the singer asked to be taken to the clinic.
Her uncle and three of her children immediately rushed her to the hospital, where medical staff admitted her within ten minutes and placed her on oxygen. Her son, Orinayo, shared that while medical personnel were actively attending to her and attempting to stabilize her condition, her pulse suddenly faded, and she passed away.
In the wake of her passing, the family has inaugurated a committee to coordinate her burial rites. A nine-day period of prayer and thanksgiving has commenced, with her official funeral and final burial services scheduled for August 25 and 26, 2026.
