There was jubilation in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Sunday as nine-year-old Master Victor Oluwatobi, the son of a pastor who was abducted by gunmen three weeks ago, regained his freedom and was reunited with his family.
The boy was kidnapped on June 5, 2026, when armed assailants invaded Ugbosi Quarters in Idogun at midnight and attempted to abduct the landlords of two houses after destroying parts of the buildings.
Although the intended victims managed to escape, Pastor Oluwatobi was unable to rescue all his children before fleeing the scene.
The nine-year-old, who was fast asleep when the attackers struck, was left behind and subsequently whisked away by the kidnappers.
Since the abduction, the Ondo State Government had mobilised security operatives, including personnel of the Nigerian Army, the Police, the Amotekun Corps and local vigilantes, who combed forests and surrounding communities in a sustained effort to secure the child’s release.
Their efforts paid off on Sunday morning when the boy was rescued through a joint security operation and safely reunited with his family.
Confirming the development, the Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, commended the security agencies and all individuals who played various roles in ensuring the safe rescue of the victim.
Residents of the community also expressed appreciation to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the security agencies for their relentless efforts, describing the rescue as a testament to the effectiveness of collaboration among security stakeholders in the state.
