Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command attached to the Onipanu Division, under the Ota Area Command, have foiled a midnight robbery operation at Ijaba in the Iyesi area of Ota, neutralising one suspect and recovering two vehicles alongside a large cache of stolen household items and weapons.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, November 1, 2026, following a distress call received by police officers at about 1:45 a.m. On sighting the responding patrol team, the armed gang opened fire, prompting a tactical gun duel with the police operatives.
During the exchange of gunfire, one of the armed robbers was neutralised, while other members of the gang escaped into the dark with suspected gunshot injuries.
A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, two live cartridges, and seven expended cartridges from the neutralised suspect. Other personal items found on him included a Tecno mobile phone, three passport photographs, an MTN SIM pack, two National Identification Number (NIN) cards, and cash.
Police officers also intercepted two operational vehicles, a Nissan Almera and a Toyota Camry, loaded with a substantial cache of suspected stolen property. Among the recovered items were HP and Dell laptops, a PlayStation console, four mobile phones, a Samsung television, a standing fan, a rechargeable radio, a Wi-Fi device, an OPay ATM card, electronic devices, clothing, and various household goods.
Confirming the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their swift response, courage, and professionalism. He stated that the Command has intensified efforts and launched a manhunt to track down the fleeing gang members, particularly those who sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter.
CP Ojajuni added that investigations are ongoing to verify the true ownership of the recovered vehicles and electronic property, as well as to link the gang’s operations to other pending cases in the state.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing, the Police Commissioner assured Ogun State residents of their safety and urged them to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or medical facilities treating gun victims to the police.
