Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has confirmed during an appearance on a national television political program that his political understanding with former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) includes an agreement to return the presidency to Northern Nigeria after a single four-year term.
Speaking during the political broadcast, Kwankwaso addressed the strategic structure of the proposed joint platform.
He explained that key stakeholders within the coalition agreed on a power-sharing arrangement where Peter Obi would serve a single tenure from 2027 to 2031, after which executive power would shift back to the North to maintain geopolitical balance and mutual trust.
Kwankwaso noted on air that the single-term commitment was tailored to respect Nigeria’s regional rotation dynamics while presenting a unified, formidable opposition front.
He emphasized that sacrificing personal political timelines for broader national stability forms the foundation of the arrangement, reassuring Northern constituencies that their political interests remain fully secured within the coalition’s single-term roadmap.
