The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has named Dr. Musa M. Zagi as the party’s deputy governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The announcement was made in a statement by the party’s Publicity Secretary in Kebbi State, Engr. Abubakar Atiku Musa, who said the nomination received the approval of the governorship candidate. The ADC described the choice of Zagi as a significant milestone in its preparations for the 2027 governorship election, expressing confidence that the running mate possesses the experience and capacity to effectively discharge the responsibilities of the office if the party wins the election.
The party urged its members and supporters to remain united and committed to its vision, stressing that collective support and grassroots mobilization would enhance the ADC’s chances of electoral success in Kebbi State. It also appealed to residents of the state to support all ADC candidates in the forthcoming elections, promising purposeful, inclusive and people-oriented leadership if elected.
It will be recalled that Malami, who served as Nigeria’s Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice under former President Muhammadu Buhari from 2015 to 2023, recently suffered a major legal setback after the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the final forfeiture of 48 properties linked to him to the Federal Government.
The court held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had established sufficient grounds to show that the assets were reasonably suspected to have been acquired through proceeds of unlawful activities. The forfeited properties include a luxury duplex in Abuja, a university campus, an agro-allied factory and several other properties located across northern Nigeria.
Despite the court ruling, Malami has continued to pursue his governorship ambition under the ADC platform, with the unveiling of Dr. Musa M. Zagi as his running mate marking another step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.
