Unknown gunmen have killed a former staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), Mrs Kitan Oyesiku, popularly known as “Aunty Kitan”, and her security guard in a gruesome attack at her residence in Agodo community along the Abeokuta–Siun–Sagamu Expressway.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, has thrown the media community and residents of Ogun State into mourning.
Sources said members of Mrs Oyesiku’s church discovered the tragedy after she failed to attend service. Concerned by her absence, they reportedly visited her residence, where they found the security guard dead.
Further checks revealed that the retired broadcaster had also been murdered by the assailants.
The shocking discovery prompted an alarm in the community, attracting residents and security operatives to the scene.
The bodies of the deceased were later evacuated and deposited at the morgue of the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.
An anonymous source familiar with the incident said church members became worried after Mrs Oyesiku failed to show up for worship, leading to the discovery of the double murder.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the command would issue an official statement on the killings.
The late Mrs Oyesiku, affectionately known as “Aunty Kitan”, was a respected figure in media circles and served with the state-owned television station before her retirement.
News of her death has sparked grief among colleagues, friends and residents, many of whom described her as a devoted professional and a cheerful personality whose legacy would be fondly remembered.
Police have commenced investigations into the killings, while efforts are underway to apprehend those behind the attack.
