There was jubilation in Igboho, Oyo State, after suspected kidnappers reportedly released abducted victims following a two-hour ultimatum issued by Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The freed victims were said to include members of a family who had been abducted in the town, triggering widespread concern among residents.
Earlier, Igboho had angrily condemned the rising wave of kidnappings and killings in the area and summoned Fulani community leaders, demanding the immediate release of the captives. He warned that failure to comply within two hours would attract decisive action.
Videos circulating on social media showed residents celebrating the return of the victims, with many singing and expressing relief over their release.
The development came amid heightened tension in Igboho and surrounding communities over recurring incidents of abduction and insecurity.
Igboho had accused criminal elements of terrorising residents and insisted that such acts would no longer be tolerated in his hometown.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the victims’ release.
