Residents of Ilu-Abo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State have been thrown into fear following the abduction of a staff member of Akure North Local Government, Mr. Samson Gbenga Sanni, popularly known as “Timber.”
The incident occurred around 7:10 p.m. on Sunday at the Agbelere area of Ilu-Abo, where the victim was reportedly seized by suspected gunmen shortly after returning home.
Sources in the community disclosed that three armed men emerged from a nearby bush and forcefully whisked Sanni away to an unknown destination.
The abducted official, an indigene of Akunu-Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government Area, was said to have arrived at his residence moments before the attack.
His wife and two children, who were inside the house at the time, reportedly watched helplessly as the assailants carried out the operation.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Command, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said officers and tactical teams had been deployed to the area to ensure the safe rescue of the victim and track down those behind the abduction.
The incident has heightened anxiety among residents and renewed concerns over the rising wave of insecurity in parts of Ondo State, with calls growing for stronger security measures to protect lives and property.
