The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was thrown into turmoil on Tuesday as the State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, and other party chieftains were reportedly injured following a violent attack at the party secretariat in Akure.
The incident, which occurred during a stakeholders’ meeting, was allegedly carried out by suspected political thugs who stormed the venue and unleashed violence on party leaders and members.
Sources told our correspondent that Engr. Adetimehin was among those targeted in the attack and sustained injuries in the process, alongside other prominent party figures including the Ondo State representative on the board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon. Otito Atikase . Although the full extent of their injuries could not be immediately confirmed.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with attendees fleeing for safety as the attackers disrupted the meeting and brought proceedings to an abrupt end.
Party insiders linked the violence to the ongoing internal crisis and power struggle between rival factions within the APC in Ondo State ahead of the party’s forthcoming congress.
The development has heightened tension within the party, raising concerns over unity and security as preparations for the congress intensify.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the party leadership nor security agencies had issued an official statement on the incident.
