Tragedy struck on Wednesday along the Akure–Owo Expressway near Ogbese-Bolorunduro in Ondo State, as a tipper truck reportedly rammed into a commercial vehicle, resulting in multiple fatalities.
Eyewitnesses at the scene said the accident occurred when the heavily loaded tipper lost control and collided head-on with the passenger car, leaving several occupants dead on the spot.
Rescue operations were still ongoing at the time of filing this report, as emergency responders and sympathizers were seen trying to assist victims trapped in the wreckage.
Traffic on the busy expressway was temporarily grounded.
Authorities of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State are yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the accident and the exact number of casualties.
