A tragic accident claimed the life of an officer of the Ondo State Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) on Friday, after he was crushed to death by a moving truck along Hospital Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The incident occurred directly opposite MEGA Primary School, throwing residents, shop owners, and passersby into confusion and shock.
According to eyewitness accounts, the officer was struck while attempting to flag down a fast-moving van along the busy stretch of road. Before he could regain his footing, an oncoming truck rammed into him, causing fatal injuries.
Details surrounding the sequence of events remain sketchy at the time of filing this report.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with sympathetic bystanders involved in the emergency mission. Distressingly, no emergency medical services or ambulances arrived at the scene following the impact. Distraught eyewitnesses and fellow VIO officers were forced to pull the victim’s body out from underneath the vehicle themselves.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the identity of the deceased officer or the status of the drivers involved.
