Five people sustained severe injuries on Tuesday afternoon after a 40-foot HOWO truck suffered brake failure and crashed into two parked commercial buses at Berger Bus Stop, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway inward Kara Bridge.
The incident occurred shortly after 1:00 p.m. when the northbound truck lost control and rammed into the vehicles stationed along the roadside.
Operatives from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), alongside officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), promptly responded to the scene and rescued the trapped victims, which included three women and two men.
The injured individuals, among whom was one of the commercial bus drivers, were immediately evacuated to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre at the Toll Gate for urgent medical treatment.
To ensure public safety and prevent secondary collisions, LASTMA personnel cleared the wreckage of the truck and the damaged buses from the carriageway, restoring the normal flow of traffic.
Officers from the Isheri Police Station provided security throughout the rescue operation, and the involved vehicles were subsequently handed over to the police to facilitate a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.
