A domestic quarrel over ₦800 has ended in tragedy in Akure, Ondo State, after a woman allegedly caused the death of her elder sister during an argument.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that the incident occurred on September 6, 2025, at about 8:00 pm.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, identified as Iluyemi Bosede, had demanded repayment of ₦800 for tomatoes and pepper from her 35-year-old sister, Tewogboye Omowumi.
The disagreement reportedly escalated, during which Bosede held onto Omowumi’s clothes, causing her to fall.
Omowumi was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, in a statement, said the suspect has been arrested and remains in custody while investigations continue.
“This unfortunate incident underscores how seemingly minor disputes can escalate into irreversible tragedies if not peacefully managed,” the statement noted.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, assured residents that justice would be served, while urging the public to embrace dialogue and non-violent approaches to conflict resolution.
He also commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his leadership and commitment to ensuring community safety across the country.
