Tragedy struck on Thursday as members of the Kano State contingent returning from the 2024 National Sports Festival in Ogun State were involved in a ghastly auto crash near Dakstalle town, approximately 50 kilometres from Kano.
At least 19 persons have been confirmed dead, including athletes, a journalist, medical personnel, and sports administrators.
Authorities have expressed deep sorrow over the loss, as the state mourns the lives lost in what has been described as one of the darkest moments following the conclusion of a national sporting event. Further details are expected as investigations continue.
