The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the dates for the upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states, setting Ekiti’s for Saturday, June 20, 2026, and Osun’s for Saturday, August 8, 2026.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made this known on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of six newly confirmed Resident Electoral Commissioners. He also unveiled the detailed timelines for party primaries, candidate nominations, and campaign periods for both states.
For Ekiti State, party primaries will be held between October 20 and November 10, 2025, with the final candidate list published on January 18, 2026, and campaigns starting January 21, 2026.
For Osun State, primaries will run from November 24 to December 15, 2025, with candidate lists out by March 9, 2026, and campaigns starting March 11, 2026.
Yakubu added that the Commission is finalising arrangements for 17 pending bye-elections and the nationwide resumption of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), especially ahead of the upcoming Anambra governorship poll. Detailed schedules are available on INEC’s website and social media platforms.
