The Supreme Court on Friday removed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, ruling that his recognition by the Court of Appeal was invalid.
In a unanimous judgment, a five-member panel of the apex court stated that the appellate court lacked jurisdiction to decide on internal party leadership matters.
The court emphasized that issues concerning party leadership are internal affairs and not subject to judicial intervention. It upheld the appeal filed by Senator Esther Usman and another, declaring it meritorious.
Additionally, the court noted that Abure’s tenure had already expired, leading to the dismissal of the cross-appeal filed by his faction of the party.
