World-renowned British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua was on Tuesday involved in a road accident in Makun, Ogun State, along the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred near Danco Filling Station, Makun, before the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound axis of the highway.
According to reports, the vehicle conveying Joshua, a Lexus SUV with registration number KRD 850 HN, collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that are yet to be fully ascertained.
A source identified as Adeniyi Orojo, who was part of the rescue effort, confirmed that two persons died on the spot, while Joshua sustainedminor injuries.
“Report reaching us according to those involved in the rescue mission, it was confirmed that Anthony Joshua escaped with minor injuries, but sadly, two people lost their lives in the accident,” the source said.
Images from the scene showed the stationary truck involved in the crash as emergency responders worked to manage the situation.
The incident has sparked widespread reactions online, with fans and well-wishers flooding social media with messages of concern for the boxing champion.
Meanwhile, local authorities have commenced investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident.
