Relief has come to residents of Eddah community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State as electricity supply reached the area for the first time in over four decades.
For more than 40 years, the community lived without access to power, relying solely on kerosene lamps, firewood, and small generators to meet their domestic and business needs.
The lack of electricity had grounded economic activities, limited educational opportunities, and slowed development in the agrarian settlement.
Speaking during the official switch-on, jubilant residents described the connection as a “dream come true” after years of neglect.
Community leaders thanked both state and federal authorities, as well as stakeholders in the power sector, for making the project a reality. They also urged the government to ensure sustainability through proper maintenance and timely response to faults.
The electrification is expected to boost small-scale businesses, improve security, and enhance the quality of life in the community, which had long been cut off from basic infrastructure enjoyed by other parts of the state.
