Residents of Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State have raised alarm over the deplorable state of a mega school project in the community, describing it as a symbol of neglect and abandonment.
A viral post on Facebook showing pictures of the facility sparked outrage, with many lamenting how the once-ambitious project has been left to rot despite its importance to the educational development of children in the area.
The structure built by former governor Olusegun Mimiko’s administration, which was expected to serve as a modern learning environment for pupils, now stands in ruins, overtaken by weeds and showing clear signs of abandonment. Community members expressed deep disappointment, stressing that the project could have transformed education in Igbokoda if it had been properly completed and maintained.
“This mega school was supposed to be a pride to our community, but today, it is nothing but an eyesore,” one resident wrote.
The development has drawn even more concern because Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, hails from Ilaje Local Government, where the project is located. Many residents say this should spur urgent action from the government to ensure the school is revived and put to use.
The Igbokoda community is now calling on the state government and relevant authorities to take immediate steps to restore the facility and ensure that students in the area have access to quality learning infrastructure.
Education advocates also urged stakeholders and well-meaning individuals to intervene, warning that the continued neglect of the school would further deepen infrastructural decay in Ilaje Local Government and deny children the future they deserve.
