Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) decision to retain him as the party’s vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The visit came barely a day after the APC formally submitted the joint nomination forms of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), putting an end to months of speculation over the composition of the party’s presidential ticket.
Shettima’s retention followed the submission of the completed nomination forms to the APC National Working Committee by the President’s representatives, reaffirming the ruling party’s confidence in the Tinubu-Shettima ticket ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The development has been widely interpreted as a strong signal of unity within the presidency and the APC, particularly after persistent rumours suggesting that the President could replace his deputy with another northern politician before the election.
Senior party leaders, governors and members of the APC National Working Committee have welcomed the decision, describing the continuity of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket as a demonstration of stability and confidence in the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The ruling party has also expressed optimism about its chances in the 2027 election, with leaders pledging to mobilise support across the country for the re-election of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima.
