Family members, friends, colleagues and admirers on Thursday bid a final farewell to late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, who was laid to rest in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, bringing to a close weeks of mourning following his death on May 11.
The burial ceremony attracted an outpouring of emotions as relatives, associates and fans gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of the actor, whose passing left the Nigerian entertainment industry in mourning.
Among those who paid glowing tributes were Nollywood stars including Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Omoni Oboli, Nancy Isime, Ini Edo, Ruth Kadiri, Ike Ogbonna, Stan Nze, Kunle Remi and Mike Godson. Comedian AY Makun, media personality Frank Edoho, socialite Cubana Chief Priest, music stars Kcee and Chike, as well as businessman E-Money, were also among prominent personalities who honoured the late actor during the funeral activities.
Clerics Pastor Jerry Eze and Pastor Ituah Ighodalo offered prayers and words of comfort, while gospel artistes Mercy Chinwo, Peterson Okopi and Ebuka Songs led worship sessions in celebration of the actor’s life.
Emotional scenes marked the final rites as family members and close associates recounted his impact on their lives, describing him as a gifted actor, a loyal friend and a source of inspiration to many young Nigerians.
As he was laid to rest amid prayers and heartfelt tributes, mourners said Alexx Ekubo’s legacy would continue to live on through his contributions to Nollywood and the lives he touched during his career.
