The Ondo State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities with an extensive operation led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, across the Ilu-Abo Forest and neighbouring communities.
The operation, conducted on June 13, involved tactical commanders and operatives combing identified flashpoints, forest corridors and suspected criminal enclaves believed to be used by kidnappers, armed robbers, cultists and other violent criminals.
According to the Command, several makeshift camps and hideouts allegedly used by criminal elements were discovered and dismantled, while intensive searches were carried out to prevent the re-establishment of such camps.
The exercise was aimed at disrupting criminal networks, restricting the movement of criminals and boosting public confidence in the state’s security architecture.
Addressing officers during the operation, CP Ohagwu reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive and intelligence-driven policing, stressing that forests and remote areas would no longer serve as safe havens for kidnappers and other criminals.
He stated that the operation aligns with the strategic directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at strengthening internal security and tackling violent crimes nationwide.
The police chief commended the professionalism of the operatives and urged them to sustain the momentum until criminal threats within the state are effectively neutralised.
The Ondo State Police Command also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
