The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced a series of far-reaching resolutions aimed at strengthening the party’s internal structures and entrenching institutional governance.
Following its second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the party declared that all governments elected on its platform must consult with the party structure on policies, programmes and appointments, except those relating to personal staff, stressing that party supremacy remains paramount.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC said all affiliated groups and non-governmental organisations associated with the party would henceforth operate under its guidance and control to ensure unity and cohesion.
The party also disclosed that a comprehensive Code of Conduct for party officials and candidates would be developed by a committee headed by the National Legal Adviser. According to the statement, the move is intended to promote discipline, accountability and transparency within the party.
As part of efforts to heal internal divisions, the NDC inaugurated a National Reconciliation Committee to reconcile aggrieved members and foster greater unity.
The party maintained that it was being built as a lasting institution rather than a personality cult or political vehicle for individual ambitions. It urged members to place the party and national interest above personal considerations.
On financial management, the NDC vowed to enforce strict accountability in the use of party resources and campaign funds, insisting that all contributions and funding received by candidates at various levels must be fully disclosed and channelled through designated party accounts.
