The Nigerian Law School management and the Lagos State Police Command have launched a joint investigation following the tragic death of 23-year-old law student Faith Alayande at the Lagos campus hostel in Victoria Island.
In an official statement released on Monday by Aderonke O. Osho, Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, the institution confirmed that Alayande was originally enrolled at the Enugu campus but was staying at the Lagos hostel to participate in a mandatory externship programme. Preliminary records show the incident occurred around 4:00 AM on Friday, August 7, 2026, when the student fell from the rooftop of the four-storey hostel facility.
According to police reports, the institution’s Chief Matron, Mrs. Igbokwe Juliana, formally notified the Victoria Island Police Division around 6:30 AM after Alayande was discovered unresponsive on the hostel grounds. Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Adebisi stated that a hostel mate and a relative had earlier found a note believed to have been written by the deceased, prompting an urgent search before she was located on the ground.
Law enforcement operatives visited the scene shortly after receiving the report and evacuated the remains to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Homicide detectives are currently assessing the scene and examining the note to verify its authenticity and establish the exact circumstances leading up to the fall.
The Nigerian Law School management expressed deep condolences to Alayande’s family, friends, and colleagues. The institution appealed to the public and news organizations to respect the family’s explicit request for privacy and refrain from unverified speculation while official investigations remain active.
