The fresh mobilisation comes days after the Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Bosede Osemaye, led hundreds of women and party supporters on a protest through major streets of Akure, condemning the candidate lists released by the APC National Working Committee (NWC).
The protesters alleged that the lists did not reflect the outcome of the party’s Assembly and National Assembly primaries and demanded the restoration of what they described as the authentic mandate of the winners.
Ahead of Tuesday’s demonstration, a viral audio and video message circulating online showed canvassers urging APC members, particularly the TLG Women Wings and supporters of Governor Aiyedatiwa, to converge at Agbogbo in Akure by 6:00 a.m. for what they described as a decisive protest.
In the recording, party faithful were specifically called upon to come out en masse and support Commissioner Bosede Osemaye in the planned demonstration.
The mobilisation message described the dispute as a collective struggle rather than a personal battle, urging members to defend their political future and stand firmly behind the governor’s political structure.
The canvassers also declared that the protesters intended to demand the return of their “mandate,” alleging that candidates who emerged from the primaries were replaced on the final lists.
Supporters further alleged that only 11 of the 26 House of Assembly candidates believed to be aligned with Governor Aiyedatiwa were retained on the final list, while several winners of both the House of Assembly and National Assembly primaries were allegedly substituted.
The claims have fueled growing discontent within the ruling party and heightened political tension across the state.
As of press time, the APC National Working Committee had not officially responded to the allegations of candidate substitution or the planned fresh protest in Akure.
