An Ekiti State High Court has sentenced two convicted kidnapperys, Ibrahim Abubakar and Abdullahi Abubakar, to death by hanging for the abduction of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in the state.
The judgment was delivered by the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, who found the two defendants guilty after the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. The court, however, discharged and acquitted the third defendant, Usman Abubakar.
The case stemmed from the kidnapping of Miss Omoboade Adesina, a female NYSC member, who was abducted on April 22, 2022, in Ekiti State.
In his ruling, Justice Ogunmoye held that the evidence presented before the court clearly established the guilt of Ibrahim Abubakar and Abdullahi Abubakar, warranting the maximum punishment prescribed by law.
The Chief Judge also commended the prosecutors from the Department of State Services (DSS) for their diligence and professionalism in investigating and prosecuting the case, noting that they successfully proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
The judgment is being viewed as a major victory in the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes in Ekiti State, reinforcing the state’s resolve to ensure that perpetrators of such offences face the full weight of the law.
