The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive election materials to polling units across Ekiti State ahead of the governorship election, where 10 political parties are set to contest for the top seat.
INEC officials confirmed that logistics arrangements have been concluded to ensure early commencement of voting, as security agencies were also deployed to strategic locations across the state to maintain order and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
The election is expected to be a keenly contested race, with major political parties and their candidates intensifying last-minute mobilization across the 16 local government areas of the state.
In a related development, attention has also shifted to Ondo State, where four political parties are participating in a senatorial bye-election holding today. The exercise is expected to fill the vacant senatorial seat following the earlier exit of the former occupant.
INEC has assured voters in both states of its readiness to conduct credible, free, and fair elections, urging residents to come out en masse to exercise their civic responsibility without fear of intimidation.
Security agencies, including the police and civil defence corps, have restricted movement and equally been deployed to ensure tight security coverage in all affected areas, as authorities warn against vote buying, violence, or any form of electoral malpractice.
The dual elections in Ekiti and Ondo are being closely watched as a test of electoral integrity and political strength in the South-West region.
