The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially registered two new political parties, increasing the total number of registered political parties in Nigeria to 21.
The newly registered parties are the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
INEC announced that the registration followed the parties’ fulfillment of constitutional and regulatory requirements as stipulated in the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process by ensuring fairness, inclusiveness, and compliance with electoral laws.
The registration of the two parties is expected to further widen the political space, offer voters more choices, and deepen democratic participation ahead of future elections.
INEC also urged all registered political parties to be guided and operate within the law and uphold democratic values in their activities nationwide.
