•••Vows Safer, Stronger Infrastructure for Akoko
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Tuesday flagged off the dualisation of the Akungba-Ikare Road in Akoko, describing it as a monumental step towards infrastructural transformation and public safety in the Northern Senatorial District of the state.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony beside the main gate of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, the Governor said the project reflects his administration’s resolve to reduce accidents, enhance connectivity, and drive regional economic growth.
He emphasized that this marks the first time each senatorial district in the state is witnessing a simultaneous dualisation project under his leadership.
“This is not just another project; it is a compassionate, strategic imperative. We are building resilience, not just roads,” Aiyedatiwa declared.
The 6.7-kilometer dual carriageway will feature utility lanes, walkways, solar-powered streetlights, and traffic signals, and will be built to withstand heavy-duty truck traffic common in the area due to its academic and commercial activity.
The Governor also affirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, stating that institutional oversight mechanisms are in place to ensure quality delivery and value for money.
Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, provided technical details of the project, describing it as a major component of the Governor’s “OUR EASE” agenda focused on urban renewal and transportation ease.
Senator Olajide Ipinsagba, Hon. Adefarati Gboyega, and traditional rulers including the Olubaka of Oka Kingdom, Oba Adebori Adeleye, all hailed the Governor as a “promise keeper” for addressing long-standing infrastructural needs in Akokoland.
Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan, in a vote of thanks, said the Governor has written his name into the region’s history by taking decisive action to end the suffering caused by the road’s poor condition.
Dignitaries at the event included Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami, Secretary to the State Government Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, APC State Chairman Engr. Ade Adetimehin, Attorney General Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, former Deputy Governor Alhaji Abdulazeez Oluboyo, traditional rulers, and top government officials.
