The Ondo State House of Assembly experienced a major leadership reshuffle on Monday as the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon. Abayomi Akinruntan, representing Ilaje Constituency 1, tendered his resignation.
During the plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon. Olamide Oladiji, Akinruntan cited political power-sharing considerations as the reason for his resignation. He hails from the same local government area as Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Following his exit, Hon. Ololade Gbegudu, representing Okitipupa Constituency II, was elected as the new Deputy Speaker.
In a related development, the House Majority Leader, Hon. Emmanuel Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi of Owo Constituency 1, also stepped down and was replaced by Hon. Olatunji Oshati of Ose Constituency.
The shakeup signals significant political realignment within the state legislature and the executive.
