A violent cult clash in Ondo town, Ondo State, on Tuesday evening has left four men dead and five others injured. The victims were reportedly attacked in multiple locations, including Ife Garage, Sabo, and Christ Land in the Oka area, by masked gunmen suspected to be rival cult member.
Eyewitnesses said three members of the Ẹiyẹ confraternity were gunned down at Ife Garage, while another was killed in front of a local shop at Sabo. The identities of the deceased remain unknown at the time of this report.
According to an online publication identified the victims as Man U, Amos, Eko, Believe, and AY. It confirmed that Man U, Amos, and AY have died, while others are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, described the victims as notorious cultists already on the command’s wanted list. He urged residents to remain calm, assuring that security forces are actively working to ensure peace and safety in the area.
Following the attack, police launched a raid on Wednesday morning in New Garage, Ayeyemi, a suspected stronghold of one of the cult factions. Several arrests were made, although the exact number has yet to be confirmed.
Ayanlade stated that all those arrested are believed to be connected to the violence and warned that disciplinary action would be taken against any officer found to have acted inappropriately during the operation.
He reaffirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down those responsible for the killings.
