President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his scheduled trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, for the 20th G20 Summit and Luanda, Angola, for the 7th AU-EU Summit, citing the need for further security briefings following recent attacks in Kebbi and Kwara states.
The President’s decision comes in the wake of the kidnapping of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi State and a violent attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, on Monday.
In response to a request from the Kwara State governor, President Tinubu has ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area. He has also directed the police to pursue the bandits responsible for the attack on worshippers.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, acting on the President’s behalf, visited Kebbi State to pay a sympathy call and provide updates. The President awaits further reports from the Vice President, the police, and the Department of State Services regarding the incidents.
President Tinubu reiterated his commitment to ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted schoolgirls and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
