The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, has expressed serious concern over the persistent shortage of manpower in public-owned media organizations across the state, describing it as a major threat to effective public communication and government visibility.
This was part of the resolutions reached at the end of the union’s monthly congress held on Wednesday, July 31, 2025, at the NUJ Press Centre, Alagbaka, Akure. The meeting, presided over by the State Chairman, Prince Leke Adegbite, had in attendance members from all chapels across the state.
The Congress specifically identified key government-owned media establishments , including the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Ondo State Radiovision Corporation (OSRC/Orange FM), and The Hope newspaper — as suffering from critical staffing gaps. It urged both the Federal and State Governments to urgently address the issue as these platforms remain vital for disseminating accurate information and promoting government activities.
NUJ emphasized that adequate staffing is essential not only for effective content generation and dissemination but also for maintaining professionalism and public trust in government-owned media outlets. The union also described the affected media houses as critical tools for public service delivery and civic enlightenment, warning that continued neglect could hamper their operational efficiency.
The Congress called for immediate recruitment and strategic investment in human resources to revitalize the media institutions and restore their full capacity to serve the public interest.
