The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko chapter, has honoured the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ondo State Council, Prince Leke Adegbite, with a distinguished leadership award.
The recognition took place on Thursday, August 27, 2026, during the 80th Regular Zonal Executive Council Meeting of SSANU, South-West Zone, held at the Nelson Mandela Hall of the university. Other notable awardees at the event included a former Attorney General of Ondo State, Adekola Olawoye, and former Ondo State NLC Chairman, Comrade Victor Amoko.
Presenting the award, the Chairman of AAUA-SSANU, Comrade Tayo Ogungbeni, stated that Adegbite was recognised for his dedication to amplifying the voices of the voiceless and promoting vital social issues through journalism. Ogungbeni noted that the association deemed it necessary to celebrate individuals who have distinguished themselves through meaningful contributions to society, describing the award as an acknowledgment of Adegbite’s commitment, professionalism, and service to humanity.
Responding through his representative, journalist Adeboye Ado, Prince Adegbite expressed deep gratitude to SSANU for the honour, viewing it as a call to greater responsibility rather than just a recognition.
He pledged that journalists in the state would continue to uphold professional ethics and use the pen to expose societal ills, defend the voiceless, and promote unbiased reporting in the pursuit of justice, accountability, and good governance. This recognition marks the third award the NUJ chairman has received from the institution within the past three months.
