The Ogun State Police Command has earned triple recognition at the Golden Jubilee Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, marking 50 years of the Union in the state, a milestone that coincides with the 50th anniversary of Ogun State. The Command received the Shield of Public Safety Award, while the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, was named a Golden Jubilee Ambassador, and the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, received the Vanguard of Public Safety Award. The Command’s active participation in the week-long celebration demonstrated its solidarity with the media and its commitment to strengthening police-media relations in the interest of public safety and public confidence.
The celebration, held from 26th October to 1st November 2026, was themed “Truth, Trust and the Press: Protecting Democratic Choice and Rebuilding Public Confidence in Journalism.” A major highlight of the event was a panel session on the theme, where CP Ojajuni featured as a panellist. During the session, he urged journalists to uphold truth, professional ethics, and patriotism, emphasising that responsible journalism is vital to national development and building public trust in democratic institutions.
At the grand finale, the Command was presented with the Shield of Public Safety Award in recognition of its proactive policing strategies, operational achievements, and dedication to protecting lives and property. While receiving the award, CP Ojajuni attributed the Command’s successes, particularly the impact of Operation KOSAYE, to the strategic direction of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, under the Handshake Patrol initiative. He explained that the operation was executed on the IGP’s directive through joint efforts between the Ogun and Lagos State Police Commands, supported by the governors of both states, which significantly strengthened inter-state security cooperation and enhanced coordinated crime prevention.
In addition to the Command’s honor, CP Ojajuni was decorated as a Golden Jubilee Ambassador alongside 49 other distinguished personalities. The recognition highlights his leadership and longstanding contributions to policing in Ogun State, where he previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department and Squadron Commander of the 16 Police Mobile Force, Abeokuta, prior to his appointment as Commissioner of Police. Similarly, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi was honored with the Vanguard of Public Safety Award for his contributions to strategic police-public communication, active media engagement, and public safety advocacy.
CP Ojajuni dedicated the honours to the Inspector-General of Police and all officers of the Nigeria Police Force whose commitment and sacrifices continue to advance the mandate of protecting lives and property. The Command expressed gratitude to the NUJ Ogun State Council, led by Chairman Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, for the recognition and its role in fostering constructive engagement between the press and security agencies.
Reaffirming its commitment to sustained partnership with the media, the Command emphasized that effective policing relies heavily on public trust, timely information, and proactive stakeholder collaboration to ensure a safer Ogun State.
