The Federal Government of Nigeria has formally unveiled a landmark agreement with the non-academic staff of federal tertiary institutions, reaffirming its dedication to improving staff welfare, promoting industrial harmony, and maintaining a stable, productive education system.
The announcement, delivered by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, comes alongside the official release of eight months’ arrears (January to August 2026) for the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA). The payment covers eligible personnel across federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide.
Highlighting the importance of the resolution, Dr. Alausa stated that the motivation, commitment, and overall well-being of both academic and non-academic personnel remain vital to the smooth functioning of tertiary institutions and the broader development of Nigeria’s human capital. The implementation of CONTA follows the earlier release of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CATA) to academic staff, demonstrating a comprehensive effort by the government to resolve long-standing labor concerns and prevent recurring industrial actions in higher learning institutions.
The Ministry of Education commended university management, union leaders, and staff across tertiary institutions for their patience and cooperation throughout the negotiation process.
Reaffirming the core objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the administration assured all education stakeholders that ongoing engagements with union representatives will continue to resolve any remaining outstanding issues, streamline administrative welfare, and secure an uninterrupted academic calendar nationwide.
