According to the 2022 State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) data, 868,404 children are enrolled in 1,248 public primary schools across Ondo State.
This represents the future workforce, innovators and leaders who will determine the state’s progress in the decades ahead.
The Ondo State Government’s 2026 Budget of Economic Consolidation allocates ₦64.5 billion to the education sector, representing about 12.3 per cent of the state’s ₦524.41 billion budget.
The allocation is expected to support school infrastructure, teacher development, digital education, learning materials and other interventions aimed at improving educational outcomes across the state.
Beyond the overall education allocation, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) received a 2026 approved budget of about ₦8.46 billion to strengthen basic education, while the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology also received funding to drive policy implementation and educational reforms.
While these investments are commendable and room for more to be done, the real measure of success will not be the size of the budget but its impact on the lives of children in classrooms across Ondo State.
Imagine the transformation if every one of the 1,248 public primary schools had safe school transportation, modern classrooms, functional toilets, clean water, electricity, digital learning facilities, well-equipped libraries, adequate teaching materials and motivated teachers.
Such investments would not only improve enrolment and learning outcomes but also prepare pupils for the demands of a rapidly changing global economy.
Education remains the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty, reducing unemployment and building a prosperous society. Every child deserves a safe, inspiring and inclusive learning environment where talent can flourish regardless of background or location.
The future of Ondo State will not be determined by the speeches made today, but by the investments made in its children.
Responsible governance begins with prioritising education, ensuring that budgetary allocations translate into visible improvements in schools and meaningful opportunities for every child.
