Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has announced that a peace agreement between the United States and Iran is now in place, marking a major diplomatic breakthrough after months of tensions in the Middle East.
Sharif disclosed that the agreement followed intensive negotiations and that an official signing ceremony has been scheduled for June 19 in Switzerland.
He said both countries had agreed to an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts.
Shortly after the announcement, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the development in a post on Truth Social, declaring that the deal with Iran was “now complete” and congratulating all parties involved.
Trump also announced the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategic oil shipping routes, and ordered the immediate removal of the United States naval blockade.
“I hereby fully authorise the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz and, simultaneously, authorise the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!” Trump stated.
The breakthrough is expected to ease tensions in the Gulf region and provide relief to global energy markets, as the Strait of Hormuz handles a significant portion of the world’s oil exports.
While details of the agreement have yet to be made public, reports indicate that further technical discussions will precede the formal signing in Switzerland on June 19th.
