A community leader, Mr. Adeniyi Adelana, has been abducted by suspected kidnappers in Ode Oriya Village, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on Saturday when six armed men stormed his residence and whisked him away through a nearby bush path to an unknown destination under the cover of darkness.
During the attack, the victim’s wife sustained a gunshot injury to her right hand. She was immediately rescued and taken to a nearby medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment and responding to care.
Following the incident, the Ondo State Police Command launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation aimed at securing the victim’s release and arresting the perpetrators. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of B Division, Owo, led a combined team of police operatives and other security personnel to the scene, where the area was secured and preliminary investigations commenced.
Security operatives have since intensified efforts, combing nearby forests, bush paths, and suspected escape routes in a bid to track the kidnappers and rescue the victim unharmed. Tactical units have also been deployed across the affected community and surrounding areas to strengthen security presence.
The Commissioner of Police has ordered all tactical and intelligence units to intensify operations for the swift rescue of Mr. Adelana and the arrest of those responsible.
The Command urged residents to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and provide useful information that could assist ongoing operations, assuring the public of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
