Prominent activist and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain, Aisha Yesufu, has launched a scathing attack on the party’s National Leader and former Bayelsa State governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, accusing him of allowing personal ego and insecurity to undermine the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 general election.
Reacting to Dickson’s recent interview on Arise Television, Yesufu said the former governor failed to use the opportunity to unite aggrieved members and project confidence in the party’s presidential ticket. Instead, she claimed the interview portrayed him as being “in competition” with the party’s presidential candidate.
“This part of the interview was so painfully appalling to watch. It looked as if you were insecure and in competition with your presidential candidate,” she said.
The former FCT senatorial aspirant argued that Dickson should have focused on reconciling disappointed aspirants and mobilising supporters rather than antagonising key stakeholders whose support would be crucial in 2027.
Yesufu maintained that the NDC was established to win elections and not merely to celebrate its registration, warning that internal divisions and leadership missteps could weaken the opposition party’s bid to unseat the ruling party.
She also accused the party leader of shifting blame whenever concerns were raised over internal processes, urging him to accept responsibility and place the bigger objective of rescuing Nigeria above personal interests.
“There is a whole battle ahead of us. Rescuing Nigeria from the current state it is in should be the main focus, not people’s fragile ego,” she declared
